Contact information

In order to make the Immigration & International Student Advice (IISA) team and their subject matter as accessible as possible, there are a number of ways that information can be accessed by University of South Wales students on all campuses.

Please first check the information contained here within the IISA Unilife pages. We endeavour to make this information as relevant and comprehensive as possible and you will find guidance on many subjects: including immigration; how to bring friends or family to the UK for a visit; working regulations; driving in the UK; travelling and excursions; Schengen visas and many more subjects. You may have to click on a main heading in the left hand navigation in order to bring up the specific query you are looking for.

If you are unable to find the information you require, you may want to contact the team direct. It is important to note that all IISA staff are trained immigration specialists who will give consistent advice. Therefore, you can speak to any member of the team with your queries and do not have to request individuals by name.

Office contact hours

The IISA office contact hours are as follows:

*Please note that Tuesday afternoons are required for staff meetings/training and appointments, though we will still try to answer the telephone and emails wherever possible during that time

Contacting us in person

IISA have daily drop-in available at Treforest campus and surgeries at Cardiff Atrium and Newport City campuses. During the summer period, these surgeries will be run monthly. Availability is detailed below:

Please note that from Friday 20th May 2016 the Atrium building will be partially closed due to reconfiguration works. This means that IISA will not have a physical presence on the campus over the summer. You will still be able to access staff quickly via live chat at Ask an Adviser or via email. Should it be necessary to meet in person, IISA will either arrange to meet you on an ad hoc basis at Atrium or reimburse travel costs to City or Treforest. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will look to resume our Cardiff presence as quickly as possible.

One to one appointments

IISA staff are able to meet with students for whom a drop-in chat is not suitable, who are submitting visa extension applications or who have a complex issue which needs exploration. If you think you need a bookable appointment, please contact the IISA team via one of the methods above and they will assess your request and, where appropriate, liaise with you to come in for an appointment at a convenient time.* Please tell us clearly why you are requesting an appointment and if you supply us with your telephone number we will give you a call to chat this through. If you are having an emergency then it is best to come along to drop-in, use our Live Chat facility or give us a call so we can see how we can help.

*Please note that it is impossible for us to see all students on a one-to-one basis and, where appropriate, we will make referral to online information or our drop-in services in the first instance.

Keeping appointments

The IISA is a very small team and missed appointments make it difficult for us to run our service efficiently. Therefore please contact us on 01443 482083 at least four hours in advance if you are unable to keep an appointment. This is so that we can use the time to best effect in supporting other students.

If you are late for an appointment you may not be seen. If you are more than fifteen minutes late for an appointment (eg you arrive at quarter past ten for a ten o’clock appointment) you will not be able to see the adviser on that day and must re-book an appointment. At very busy times this might not be possible for a few days or weeks so please take responsibility to arrive on time and fully prepared with whatever you need.

The International Zone

The Immigration & International Student Advice team’s main offices are located in the Treforest campus in Eynon Block, the International Zone at E001 (formerly B68). It is number 27 on the Treforest visitor map. The International Zone at E001 holds a variety of information leaflets, tourist information, a noticeboard and also PC access for students. It is open during office contact hours.
